3D Television
3D TV is the kind of television that enables the user to watch three dimensional images. Many major companies like LG, Samsung etc. have been producing 3D TV now. 3D movies have been made right from 1890’s. The quality of the 3D movies has increased since then. The initial 3D movies that were just a treat to our eyes at movie theatres have reached our homes through 3D TVs.
Three dimensional televisions fall under the category of sophisticated and high end ones that we see in the market today. Most of them include Wi-Fi connectivity, SB port etc. The two different types of 3D TVs that are seen today are the 3D-ready TV sets and Full 3D TV sets. The 3D-Ready TV sets work with the help of LCD shutter glasses. The image from the TV when hits the glasses, they adjust the perception of depth and give 3D vision. Full 3D TV sets do not require the use of glasses. The image is already 3D adapted in this case.
Earlier the production of 3D televisions was very difficult. But as the technology is advancing, innovations in the field of 3D TV are quite many these days. There are different techniques of producing 3D effect. Multi-view capture, Stereoscopic capture, 2D with depth etc are some of them. Among these, the most commonly used method is stereoscopy. To display the stereoscopic images, lenses may or may not be used. The lenses used in the former case can be passive red clan lens, passive polarized lens, active shutter lens or lens that will relax the focus of eyes. 3D display without the use of lenses is known as Auto 3D.
Stereoscopic images are usually captured with the help of two cameras that are placed at a distance that is same as the distance between the pupils of a human being. At the same time Multi view capture method involves use of multiple cameras.
3D TV is becoming more and more popular day by day as the number of 3D movies being produced is increasing. But even now the 2D televisions have not lost their importance. Though 3D televisions are popular, most people use only 2D TVs even now. Society of motion pictures and television engineers is currently discussing upon setting some standards for the quality of 3D TV. The factors that will be standardized include 3D glasses, format of recording, bandwidth etc.
